Clara’s apartment was filled with the hum of machines—her laptop, audio recorders, and the makeshift radio scanner she had borrowed from Dr. Ravi Shah. The mysterious word—Prepare—still echoed in her mind, a haunting reminder of the shapes’ cryptic message. She replayed the audio recording for the tenth time, hoping to glean some new insight from the garbled static.
…Prepare…” The word was faint, almost lost in the background noise, but it was undeniably there.
She leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples. The media frenzy around the shapes had only intensified. National outlets were calling it "The New Jersey Phenomenon," and talk shows hosted panels of experts debating whether the shapes were drones, UFOs, or something else entirely. Meanwhile, the radio disruptions continued, with residents reporting strange tones and bursts of static whenever the shapes appeared.
Online Clues and Ravi’s Analysis
Determined to dig deeper, Clara uploaded the audio recording to an online forum frequented by amateur signal analysts and conspiracy theorists. Within minutes, her post exploded with activity.
“Definitely some kind of encoded message,” one user wrote.
Another added, “Sounds like frequency modulation—try running it through a spectrogram.”
Clara forwarded the recording to Ravi, who quickly confirmed the theory. The tones contained a visual pattern: concentric circles, spirals, and what looked like mathematical equations. “This isn’t random noise,” Ravi told her over the phone. “It’s a deliberate signal. Someone—or something—is trying to communicate.”
The Shapes Return
The next night, Clara ventured back to the park where she had first encountered the shapes. Armed with Ravi’s equipment and a renewed sense of purpose, she waited. The cold December air bit at her cheeks as she stared at the empty sky, her fingers poised over the recorder.
Hours passed before the shapes returned.
They appeared silently, as if emerging from the fabric of the night itself. This time, they moved in a more deliberate pattern, forming intricate spirals that pulsed with light. Clara’s radio crackled to life, the static giving way to a series of tones. She hit the record button and watched in awe as the shapes descended lower, their glow reflecting off the frost-covered grass.

Suddenly, the tones shifted. They became rhythmic, almost musical, and then—words.
“We... are… the Messengers.”
Clara gasped, her heart racing. The voice was deep and resonant, layered with an otherworldly distortion. The shapes pulsed in time with the words, as if emphasizing their meaning.
“Messengers of what?” Clara whispered, her voice trembling. But the radio offered no reply. Instead, the shapes began to project images into the sky—faint, flickering visions of sprawling cities, towering spires, and alien landscapes.
“Holy…” Clara trailed off, instinctively reaching for her camera. The shapes’ display was mesmerizing, but what struck her most was the unmistakable familiarity of some of the imagery. Among the alien worlds were glimpses of Earth—pyramids, ancient ruins, and even a stylized rendering of the Milky Way galaxy.
Global Unfolding
The next morning, Clara shared her findings with Ravi. Together, they analyzed the recordings and the images she had captured. “They’re showing us something,” Ravi said, pointing to a rendering of what looked like an ancient star map. “These shapes… they’re not just lights. They’re beacons, or maybe even entities themselves. And they’re pointing us toward something significant.”
Clara nodded. “But why now? Why are they showing us this?”
Their conversation was interrupted by a news alert on Clara’s phone: “Government Confirms EMP Disruptions Linked to New Jersey Phenomenon.”
Clara frowned, scrolling through the article. The electromagnetic pulses triggered by the shapes had begun affecting power grids in neighboring states, leading to widespread outages and panic. The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement, urging residents to stay calm and refrain from attempting to interact with the shapes.
But Clara couldn’t stay calm. She couldn’t ignore the message in the static: We are the Messengers.

That evening, Clara found herself staring at her reflection in the darkened screen of her laptop. She had spent hours piecing together the images and patterns from the recordings, but the puzzle remained incomplete. As she drifted into restless sleep, her mind replayed the voice’s words: Messengers. Prepare.
At 3:00 a.m., she was jolted awake by a frantic call from Ravi. “Clara, turn on the news,” he said, his voice shaking.
She scrambled to her television, her heart sinking as she saw the live broadcast. The shapes were no longer confined to New Jersey. They had appeared over New York City, Washington D.C., and several major cities around the globe.
